If you become a human resources worker, you can work as a HR Manager or assistant, a labor relations specialist, a trainer, or in payroll. You'll be helping companies find, train, and evaluate their workers.

Becoming an HR specialist means getting your bachelor's degree, preferably in a related field. Many schools offer programs in human resources, personnel administration, or industrial and labor relations. Business or liberal arts degrees can also be stepping stones to a career in human resources. Some companies promote workers with no formal training into HR positions.

What's it like to be a human resources manager?

Once you've become a human resources manager, you'll work with people in business settings, day in and day out. You'll be busy with meetings, with management and with workers--explaining job benefits, testing worker abilities, conducting training sessions. You'll have lots of paperwork, but helping people find jobs will be satisfying. You'll probably work a 40-hour week. HR managers and trainers both make a healthy living, though trainers generally earn somewhat less than managers.
