How to become a Teacher : Overview
Those who work in education teach students from pre-schoolers through adults. Most of those who become teachers teach at the preschool, primary, or secondary school level.
How to become a teacher
If you feel that a teaching career is your calling, you've probably already experienced the pleasure of helping someone learn. You'll need both a bachelor's degree and a teaching credential to enter the field of education. You'll spend the second semester of your credential year in the classroom, student teaching.
Why study education?
Demand for teachers looks to remain high. Some schools grant tenure or permanent contracts to teachers, guaranteeing them job security. Private schools generally pay less, and salaries depend on the community in which you teach. Special education teachers and school psychologists earn more. You'll work long hours, but you'll also experience the personal rewards of helping others learn.
